Popular Fish Species Blue Marsh Lake, PA

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing is popular at Blue Marsh Lake, and locals report the northern section of the lake to be the best area to start. Brushy shorelines in the Blue Marsh Lake Park area can be ideal, especially in Spring and Fall. Spinnerbaits and mid-range crankbaits, like the Rapala DT-6, are a good way to cover lots of water.

Smallmouth Bass

Smallies also reside here and tend to concentrate in the deeper, clearer water on the Southern half of the lake. Rocky areas, especially rocky points are a good place to find smallmouth. The section of lake from the State Hill Boat Launch to the Blue Marsh Lake Dam gets reports of good numbers. Crawfish-imitating crankbaits, like the Rapala DT-6, are a good choice.

Striped Bass

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reports the lake record striper to be 48 pounds. Being successful at fishing for stripers is a matter of locating schools of bait, and wolf packs of stripers are likely to be nearby. Fish finders are a big help in locating these roaming schools. The channel on both sides of the big island tends to hold big schools of stripers. Swimbaits, jigs, spoons, live bait and cut bait are all effective here.

Blue Marsh North Boat Launch
Located on the east side of the northwest arm of the lake, on the east side, this is a two-lane, concrete ramp with paved parking for over sixty vehicles with trailers.

Dry Brooks Boat Launch
Located in the east side of the lake, off Palisades Drive, this is a two-lane, concrete ramp with docks and plenty of parking.

State Hill Boat Launch
Located in the southwest corner of the lake, this is a two-lane, concrete ramp with docks and tons of paved parking.
