Bear Lake is a natural freshwater lake located on the border of Utah and Idaho, in the northeastern part of Utah. Known as the "Caribbean of the Rockies" for its stunning turquoise-blue waters, Bear Lake is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts.

The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities, attracting anglers from all over the region. One of the primary draws is the variety of trout species available. Rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and lake trout (also known as mackinaw) are the most sought-after fish in Bear Lake. These trout species thrive in the clear and cool waters, providing a rewarding fishing experience for anglers of all skill levels.

Spring and fall are the best seasons to fish at Bear Lake. During these times, the water temperatures are optimal, and the fish are more active, making it easier to catch a variety of trout. Anglers often employ various fishing techniques, including trolling, casting, and fly-fishing, to target different trout species.

Surrounding the western side of the UT half of this 70,000-acre lake are marinas, campgrounds, boat ramps, RV parks, boat rentals, lodging, restaurants and shopping. The lake is situated on the northern border of the state, at Garden City. Fishing enthusiasts can get access to most of the 80 miles of shoreline for fishing from the bank, or to launch car-toppers, canoes and kayaks. Quality rainbow, cutthroat and lake trout fishing is the big draw here, and (when there is safe ice) ice fishing during winter for trout and whitefish.
