Popular Fish Species Angostura Reservoir, SD
Walleye

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
With water temperatures in the mid-60's, walleye have completed their spawn and are moving to flats, shoals and ledges off shore. They primarily feed on gizzard shad and other small fish, mostly close to the bottom. Jigs tipped with worms or minnows, blade baits, swimbaits and spoons are catching fish. Locals report catching walleye using spoons, deep-diving crankbaits, and worm harness spinners while trolling .Throughout Summer, early in the morning and from dusk to long after dark are the best times to catch walleye, as they move shallow to feed.
Smallmouth Bass

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
It's post spawn for smallies and they are feeding aggressively. Crankbaits, jerkbaits, Ned rigs and tube baits are popular here. With water temperatures in the 60's, topwater action is quite good, especially early and late in the day. Smallmouth fishing is often quite good on cold, windy, cloudy and rainy days.
Black Crappie

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Very Good
While walleye and bass garner a lot of attention here, don't overlook the healthy population of crappie, as crappie fishing has been good this year. Spring is the premiere time to be on the water as crappie move into the shallows. Expect to find crappie in 4 to 10 feet of water. Rocks, brush piles, wood and vegetation are holding schools of crappie. Most of the slabs caught here are biting small crappie jigs or live minnows. Now that the spawn is over, and the hot Summer sun begins to warm the shallows, crappie retreat to depths of 15 to 25 feet or deeper. Light tackle with 4 lb to 8 lb line is ideal. Anglers report locating schools using fish finders and forward facing sonar.
