Popular Fish Species Upper Klamath Lake, OR
Rainbow Trout

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Rainbow trout here are actually a subspecies known as redband trout. The diet of these trout consists of insects, minnows or small chubs, crustaceans and an occasional small perch. Anglers currently catching these fish are using flies or small lures, that imitate their natural food sources. Flies, small spinners, miniature crankbaits and swimbaits are currently catching trout here, as are nightcrawlers, salmon eggs and prepared baits. Early mornings in Summer can be the ideal time to catch a big trout here, before the algae bloom expands from the bright sun. Fish in the 10 lb to 15 lb range are not uncommon.
Yellow Perch

Current Report: Very Good
Outlook: Very Good To Excellent
Yellow perch are being caught with ease here at Klamath Lake, and depending on the area they vary in size from small to big fatties. A stable population of yellow perch resides here, providing fun fishing for anglers year round. Locals also enjoy some tasty fish frys when catching a bunch of them. The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife reports, fishing for yellow perch is best during the spring and fall when they are shallow, and more difficult in the summer when they move to deeper water.
