Popular Fish Species Turtle Creek Reservoir, IN
Black Crappie

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
You can catch a mess of fat, slab crappie pretty much year round. Anglers fishing in the warmed waters of Turtle Creek Reservoir report decent numbers and some fairly good size ones. Spring is the premiere time to be on the water as crappie move into shallow coves to spawn. Docks, brush, wood and deep vegetation are a good place to cast small crappie jigs or live minnows. Light tackle with 4 lb to 8 lb line is ideal. Locals report good success using fish finders to locate schools of crappie, which tend to stack vertically around cover.
Largemouth Bass

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Vibrating jigs, with or without a creature trailer, are catching bass at Turtle Creek Reservoir in good numbers and some nice quality. When the bass bite slows down, tournament anglers report stick worms are triggering bites in both shallow and deeper water. Bass like to spawn in coves and pockets for protection from the wind, so fish the creeks in Spring, and concentrate on points and ledges in Summer and Fall.
Channel Catfish

Current Report: Fair To Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
The river section of Turtle Creek Reservoir, in the northern third of the lake is a great place to find some of the bigger channel cats. Fishing for channel catfish is often productive around any kind of structure. Submerged road beds, creek channels and rocky points are all good places to begin. Use a slip sinker or Carolina rig setup. I prefer a big gob of nightcrawlers, or cut bait as they both produce here.
